"It’s
one of the few bands that can resonate something akin to Red Hot Chili
Peppers. They’re gathering good reviews and are highly regarded as
a hot new act. Their live show should surely be terrific if these
songs are anything to go by. An impressive song is “Concrete Cowboy”,
a rock anthem, while other songs to note are “Black Hole”, where jazzy
bass and guitar blend well. The last couple of tracks enable the listener
to let loose to some groovy funk. They dish up a good range of styles
and have much fun in doing it. ." Mediasearch,

Qwiksand’s “The Fellowship of the Groove” is fun, melodic funk ...
“Groove” is engaging with a strong guitar riff and “Concrete Cowboy,”
poppy and catchy, offers a light, bouncy sound that is more likely
to appeal to a wider variety of music fans. Qwiksand show a more dynamic
side on “Phunkadelic,” offering memorable lyrics and understated but
effective guitar and bass riffs... Qwiksand have retained their mellow
and casual feel while showing off their newly refined and polished
sound. Grade: B+" Plug

"4
Stars... If Shaft was living in southern California and he invited
Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix over for dinner, The Fellowship of the
Groove by Qwiksand could easily turn that dinner into a party. Combining
elements of funk, rock, reggae, R&B and soul, Orange County quartet
Qwiksand put the word fun into funky. A musical camaraderie of steady
good vibes for the soul." -Pure

Maximum Ink from Wisconsin
"4
Stars... Qwiksand is a four-piece band that combines funk, reggae,
rock, and ska influences for a stripped down California beach- tremolo
sound.... It's a very simple but effective combination: stripped down
funk-rock with a powerful backbeat. "The Fellowship of the Groove"
is about as far away from over-produced as you can get; remaining
raw and unscrupulous yet really damn funky. It's definitely got some
serious groove, and I would recommend this to any fan of Sublime or
subsequent projects. Beach rock at it's best! "

Morsels from Acworth, Georgia
"SoCal's
QWIKSAND melds funk, R&B, reggae and rock styles into a wicked little
effort. The retro "Beer Goggles" is laden with funky wah-wah guitar
and soulful vocals, like 24-7 Spyz in an Isaac Hayes mood. The haunting
island vibe of "$20" and the happy go lucky groove in "Concrete Cowboy"
show some of the songwriting diversities as well as the solid chops
of the players." Music

"4
Stars... With song titles like Beer Goggles, Phunkadelic and Superfunk,
the quartet's goal is clear - they want to funk things up in a big
way. But ... dun dun dun ... will they succeed? The answer is ...
yes. Basically, you're probably going to listen to this disc with
a preconceived notion of what it's going to sound like - super funky
- and Qwiksand doesn't disappoint. Fellowship makes you want to gyrate
rhythmically and just go with the flow while R~A~S tears it up on
guitar, Wagner brings in some groovy beats and Ferrugia lays down
the bass."

Norman
Famous from Albany, California
"Qwiksand
play sinewy funk with slight reggae inflections on their new CD, The
Fellowship of the Groove. The 11 songs (including a seconds-long intro
called "The Landing") are loosely connected via a story about an encounter
with an "exquisite alien". It's a nice touch. This band probably kills
live. Not a note is wasted as drummer Mike Wagner and bassist T.J.
Ferrugia lay down a solid groove in support of the sparse guitar styling
of R-A-S and Marlon Hawkins' muscular vocals. The focus is on tight
ensemble playing - none of the songs overstay their welcome - and
everything is kept tight, funky and to the point. Fellowship of the
Groove is an enjoyable collection of unself-conscious party music.

"Remember
the bar band in Ghost World who claimed that they played real "down
in the Delta blues"? Remember how they came out and played a guitar
wanking, torn-jeans wearing, frat-boy style hybrid that whipped the
crowd into a frenzy. Qwiksand could easily be that band. Their style
is a hybrid of funk, blues and rock, and echoes bands such as the
Red Hot Chili Peppers and Big Head Todd and the Monsters, with a heavy
Hendrix influence to boot." -Excerpt from album review by Dave Madden,

business and design to research a different way of living that is

that are recyclable and on the other side you have the business committed

Planet Squared promoted a nationwide contest to celebrate
those who are environmentally conscious. Entrants, in 100 words
or less were asked to answer the question: "How are you one with
your planet?" The best entry would have their work published in
Planet Squared eNews and would win QWIKSAND's
2003 debut CD titled: The More You Groove...
The Deeper You Sink" individually autographed by each
member from the band with delivery to their front door for free!
The
Winner of Planet Squared's Conscious Groove Extravaganza is Christine
Foote from Norton, Massachusetts, USA: "I
am an avid recycler in every which way. Each week I have more to
recycle than I have trash to dispose. I buy recycled products and
then recycle those products again. I save containers and donate
them to local schools. I take trash home from school and where I
work and then recycle it on my own. I also take bags to the grocery
store and reuse them. I often get stares for all of the recycling
that I do but I don't care. People who know me know that they should
recycle to make this planet better."

Why
is Planet Squared... Furniture for the Future?
During
spring 2001', Planet Squared promoted a nationwide contest that
challenged our customers to create an original artwork based on
the question: Why is Planet Squared "Furniture for the Future?".
The best entry would have their name and artwork published in Planet
Squared eNews and would also be given their choice of winning
one of our Resourceful Living Arrangements™
including delivery to their front door for free! Well... we're proud
to say that all of the entries we received were very inspiring and
would like to thank and congratulate all that entered! The 2001'
Grand Prize Winner of Planet Squared's Ecological Extravaganza who
answered the question correctly is: William Forester of Los Angeles,
California, USA! William won his choice of a "Ju-el" delivered
to his home for free as well as having his artwork featured here.
To
find out a little more about him... we asked William to share with
us what inspired his work. Mr. Forester, a 28-year-old avid artist
and surfer told us he's tired of paddling out in polluted water
and getting sick. "Instead of accepting it... I've directed
my angst towards ignorant, selfish humans who continue to destroy
our planets fragile ecosystem. Though it's sad to see people live
their entire life completely oblivious, I feel my artwork helps
some to understand that planet Earth is a precious gift to share
not a commodity to horde. To grow up watching countries exhaust
our planets resources, pollute the environment then, fight over
who owns a piece of it is pathetic and deplorable. Planet Squared
shows us we can live in harmony. Long live those squared to the
P." The artwork shown here incorporates a view of planet Earth
taken by the orbiting spacecraft Clementine.
